About the Studio
Whitson String Studio, located in San Luis Obispo County, is based on the philosophy that anyone with a desire to practice can learn to play an instrument. A willingness to work consistently over an extended period of time is the magical ingredient needed for successful improvement. Instruction is offered on viola, violin and beginning cello.
Private Instruction focuses on the importance of uncovering each student's special learning style and personally tailoring lessons to suit an individual's needs. Aspiring beginners through advanced students receive one-on-one instruction
incorporating classic European pedagogy and certain elements of the Suzuki method which are carefully combined and re-evaluated to meet changing goals and needs.
Group Lessons are available as an alternative to a private instructional approach for those students who prefer working in a larger, more socialized setting. This type of instruction frequently offers the perfect musical introduction for a complete beginner.
Summer Music Programs offer beginning through advanced string players an opportunity to experience performing in both large (orchestral) and small (trio, quartet) ensembles. The programs target those students interested in broadening their educational foundation to include music history, theory and compositional study.
The Studio's Mission is to create a positive, fun learning environment, for all of its students, where the perfect opportunity exists in which to foster the important tools needed to succeed at whatever they ultimately choose to do in life.
As part of the Studio, Whitson Strings provides the general public with a group of professional musicians available to hire for weddings, receptions, birthdays or any other type of special event. Please contact the Studio for dates of availability and rates.
